27A Reading Reflection

Steve Jobs, By Walter Isaacson

  • What surprised me the most, was how raw some of the interviews were. Steve Jobs wanted to be brutally honest in these interviews and gave himself no control over what be put in the book. He was a hard worker and sometimes drove co-workers crazy because of this. Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.

  • What inspired you to begin innovating?
  • Do you ever regret sacrificing relationships to be as successful as you were?

  • An exercise I'd make based off this reading is to think of an everyday object we use, such as a door way. Now come up with a more creative version of it.

  1. Gavin, I actually read about Steve Jobs in my first reflection and I was just as amazed as you are at his personality and genius. It's crazy to think this his work ethic and passion started to even annoy other people, but his continued innovation was unmatched and it absolutely paid off. I also think your questions would be great to ask Steve to see a little bit "under the hood" and how he thought when he worked on his products.
